As winter sports have come to an end, Jefferson High School’s swim team and wrestling team both took their prowess states.

  • For the wrestling team, six wrestlers qualified for the state tournament: Jacob Biller, Owen Keel, Kaleb Snyder, Marco Tapia, Colton White and Theo Yates. Of these wrestlers, Jacob Biller and Marco Tapia both placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes.
  • The girls swim team did not achieve an overall place at states, but did receive accolades in specific events: 200-meter freestyle crew placed eighth and the 200-meter medley relay team placed ninth.
  • Fortunately, the boys swim placed seventh overall at states, and Cooper Hanson individually placed sixth in states in the the 100-meter freestyle.

For Cougar basketball the season ended a bit sooner. Both boys and girl’s basketball teams lost at sectionals. The girls team won against Washington High School, and then fell to Hampshire High School. The boys team lost to both Washington High School and Martinsburg High School. Better luck to basketball at Jefferson next year!

Although winter lingers, spring sports have begun! Softball had a win to start the season, defeating Hampshire, 16-1.

JHS baseball team has already taken home two wins, defeating Blue Ridge, 25-7, and Martinsburg, 11-1.

Tennis and track teams have been training and — after spring finally arrives — will start their seasons soon.

As these spring sports begin, it is an exciting time for all athletes and spectators. Best of luck to all spring sports in this new season!
